International Canine Trainers — Membership Criteria

At International Canine Trainers (ICT), we want our membership to represent knowledgeable, experienced and ethical dog trainers who put the welfare of dogs at the heart of their work.

To apply for professional membership, applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Proof of relevant canine training qualifications
  • Evidence of practical experience working professionally with dogs and their guardians
  • Two client references from people you have worked with
  • Two videos of you teaching, so we can see your communication, training approach, ability to support both dog and guardian, and practical skills
  • An informal Zoom chat with members of the ICT team. This isn't intended to be intimidating or an exam — it's an opportunity to get to know you, discuss your experience and approach, and make sure ICT is the right professional community for you.

All members will also be expected to follow the ICT Code of Ethics and Practice and work in accordance with our core principles: Force Free • Fear Free • Pain Free

Our aim isn't simply to collect qualifications. We want to recognise trainers who can demonstrate knowledge, practical ability, compassion and a commitment to continued professional development.

Better Trainers • Brighter Futures • Happier Dogs.
